Emergency procedures for Harrow School Sports Centre
On discovery of a fire you must operate the nearest fire alarm, which will sound like a constant siren.
You must leave the building by the nearest exit.
You must not collect belongings.
Meet at the car park at the bottom of Garlands Lane. Do not go home unless you have notified a member of staff that you are leaving.
Swimming pool users
If you are in the swimming pool when the fire alarm sounds you must not go back into the changing rooms to collect your belongings.
You must leave the building via the fire exits on the poolside where you will find a blue bag containing the emergency blankets. Please ensure a member of your group hands these blankets out.
Follow the path round (right) to the front of the building and meet with the others of the sports centre at the car park at the bottom of Garlands Lane.
Weight room and sports hall users
If you are using the weights room or sports hall when the alarm sounds, exit the building via the main entrance at the reception or the fire exit to the rear of the sports hall - please use the most accessible. Do not go to the changing rooms to collect your belongings.
- If exiting via the sports hall follow the path round to the right to the front of the building and meet the other users in the car park at the bottom of Garlands lane.
- If exiting via the main entrance, meet the other users at the car park.
Changing rooms
If you are in the male changing rooms you can either exit the building from the team change fire exit (this is the last changing room in the male change past the urinals) or go through to the poolside and exit from there. If exiting from the team change follow the building round to the right and meet at the car park at the bottom of Garlands Lane.
If you are in the female changing rooms you can exit via the main reception entrance, or go onto poolside and exit from the three fire doors.
In the event of a power failure
In the event of a power failure the emergency lights will automatically come on. Please ensure that all your members of the group climb out of the pool and wait by the fire exits. It is essential that a roll call is made to make sure there are no remaining members of the group in the water. All members of the group that are in the changing rooms must come onto poolside and wait again by the fire exit until notified by the duty supervisor that it is safe to re-enter the pool.
It may be necessary for a full evacuation to occur dependant on what has caused the power failure. Please ensure your group is ready to evacuate immediately if the duty supervisor had indicated that this action is to be taken.
In the event of the duty supervisor not being able to reset the power supply, and if it is safe to do so, the duty supervisor will ask for the group to get changed as quickly as possible and to exit via the main reception door. It is essential that all members are counted out.
